How to Set Up a Pop-Up Prayer Room for Easter Week

Looking for a meaningful way to engage your church or community during Easter Week? A pop-up prayer room is a simple but powerful way to create space for people to pray, reflect, and encounter God—not just attend another service.

You can do this for a full week, a single day like Maundy Thursday, or even just a few hours in an evening. Whether it’s in a church room, your home, or a rented space—here’s how to do it:

Step 1: Pick a Timeframe

Choose what works best for your space and schedule:

  • Full day (e.g., 7 AM – 9 PM)

  • Evening only (e.g., 6 PM – 9 PM)

  • Multiple days during Holy Week

💡 Add optional live worship sets (1 hour each) or play soft instrumental worship in the background when live music isn’t happening.

Step 2: Create the Atmosphere

Set the tone for quiet, focused prayer:

  • Lighting: Use lamps, fairy lights, or candles (battery-operated if needed) to create warm, medatative lighting.

  • Music: Instrumental playlists or worship background music.

  • Space: Arrange seating for individuals and small groups. Add signs for a “quiet zone.”

  • Decorations: Add plants, art, Christmas lights or other beautiful decorations to create a memorable and transformative space that feels special, unique and set apart.

Step 3: Set Up Prayer Stations

We recommend 4–7 simple prayer stations that walk through Holy Week. Each one should include:

  • A theme (e.g., Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter)

  • A short reflection or Bible verse

  • A hands-on activity (e.g., washing hands, writing a prayer, taking communion, creating art)

Here are a few station ideas:

  2. Prayer Wall: Put blank paper up on the wall for people to write requests or intercede for others.

  3. Praise Station: Put blank paper up on the wall for people to write verses, lyrics, prayers and praises on the wall.

  4. Art Station: Set out simple art supplies for people to draw or paint a prayer response.

Step 4: Invite People to Sign Up or Drop In

Encourage people to sign up for 1-hour prayer slots—alone or with a group. Walk-ins are welcome too! Post a sign-up link and explain what to expect. This helps people actually make time and space to show up to the prayer room, and commit to staying a full hour! Though an hour might feel long at first, it is actually the perfect amount of time to settle into prayer and allow space for God to move.

Why It Works

People remember and respond to experiences more than information. Studies show that hands-on, reflective experiences lead to deeper engagement, memory, and transformation. A prayer room makes space for people to slow down and connect deeply with God—through movement, art, stillness, and prayer.
